BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE

Finished Pillow Size: 20" square

MATERIALS
     2-1/2" yds. of brown stripe (#35028-15)
     18" square pillow form
     20-1/2" square ruler
     Thread in colors to match fabric
     Basic sewing supplies

Yardage is based on 42" wide useable fabric from Moda's Sonnet collection. DIRECTIONS
Note: Use a 1/4" seam allowance throughout unless otherwise indicated.
  1. Using the square ruler, cut four 45° triangles 11" tall as shown in Diagram 1.

  2. Cut two 12-1/2" x 20-1/2" pieces for the backing.
  3. Sew two triangles together, matching stripes as shown in Diagram 2.
    Stitch the remaining triangles together, again matching stripes.
    Sew together these two units to make the pillow top (see Diagram 3).
  4. Turn under 1/4" on one long side of each 12-1/2" x 20-1/2" piece.
    Press, turn under 1/4" again, press, and stitch to make a hemmed edge.
  5. With right sides together, match corners and raw edges of the long side of the rectangles to the pillow top, overlapping the hemmed edges at the middle (see Diagram 4).
  6. Stitch all seams around the pillow. Turn right side out and press.
  7. Sew 2" in from the finished edges around the pillow as shown in Diagram 5 to make the flange. Stuff pillow form inside.
