Inside This Issue — Summer 2008

Summer 2008 CoverSummer Romance

Five years ago, Fabric Trends was launched to showcase some of the latest fabrics in the marketplace, as well as to provide quilters with traditional and contemporary designs that work well with them. Over the years, we've also profiled many well-known fabric designers, who have shared their ideas and inspiration, and have taken a look at how their visions fit in with home decorating ideas and trends.

For this fifth anniversary issue, we asked the professional design staff at Rosen's in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania (www.rosensfurniture.com) to help us style our summer quilts. They generously allowed us to use their beautiful room sets, provided us with props, and gave us a wealth of information about home décor. We can't thank them enough! To read more about their showroom and decorator service, turn to page 50.

Knowing that summer would be in full swing once this issue came out on the newsstands, we also asked our favorite manufacturers and designers to send us projects on the light side—light fabrics, fresh florals, and pretty prints. They more than rose to the challenge! From bed quilts to baby quilts, and everything in between, we acquired a wide range of decorative accessories for your enjoyment.

Fabric Trends isn't the only one celebrating an anniversary! We hope you'll join us in wishing award-winning quiltmaker Eleanor Burns a happy thirtieth anniversary year. Eleanor's pioneering work with her Quilt in a Day methods have justifiably won her a lot of recognition. Read about her glorious thirty-year journey, then make her Silent Star quilt with its fabulous pieced ribbon border!

If your vacation travels take you to faraway places that are a little off the beaten path this year and you happen to have your quilting (or a copy of Fabric Trends) with you, send us a photo. Extreme quilting? Why not? Stranger things have happened. We'd love to hear from you!

Nostalgic Nosegays
Quilt designed by Debby Kratovil for Blank Quilting
Quilted by Cathy MacDonald
Feedsack fabric designed by Susie Osburn

Bouquets of summer blooms are captured for year-round enjoyment with delightful reproduction feedsack fabrics. Manufactured during the early 1900s to hold grain and seed, printed cloth feedsacks were used by thousands of women to create quilts and clothing during the Great Depression. Quilters today appreciate both their beauty and history. While authentic feedsacks are becoming harder to find, reproduction fabrics make it possible to re-create quilts that have the same nostalgic charm.
